Taxidermy Knives

As with any job, you want to use the right tool. Cutting the cape of your trophy or fleshing the skin both take specific knives or tools. A small amount of personal preference does play a part in the decision of which tool to use. If you aren't comfortable using a scalpel then you might prefer a knife.

If you are a beginner or are just short on funds you might want to pass on the more expensive fleshing machines on the market. As you progress you will have to make that choice when the time comes.

Many taxidermist make their own boards to flesh on. You can of course buy pre-made boards but there is a sense of satisfaction when you make your own. Of course that means it is customized to your need too. One tool you should not be without is a skife knife. You will find it useful on every trophy you work on.

You are ultimately in control of which taxidermy knives you choose. If you ask 10 different taxidermist they will most likely use 10 different knives. Keep in mind that as your skills improve you will want to upgrade your taxidermy knives.
